Welcome to my world page! Here you can find all of my world/story stuff, recently moved from my character page! I've also decided to add character summaries to this page as well, since my character page is more for the full, complete descriptions of my characters, and no one wants to read all of that, lol.

If you're curious about my characters, this would be the place to start! As a sort of over-arching meta description, all of my characters are located in the same universe. Characters in the summary section are characters/pets that I am currently developing.

The bulk of the story takes place in two "realms": the surface/existence realm, and the anti-existence realm. Aethar is the primary world on the surface in regards to the story, but the surface realm also includes all of the surrounding galaxies. These two terms are often used interchangeably, the latter more often when comparing with the anti-existence realm.

Aethar (existence realm) is a "typical" modern world, complete with cities, worldwide connections, technology, and the sort. It can be assumed that it has similar physical properties and evolutionary backstory to Earth. There are several major cities where much of the story takes place. Although the world is relatively technologically advanced, "magic" and otherwise strange happenings are somewhat more accepted and commonplace, but many humans, especially those living in the cities, are still quite skeptical of the use of magic and soul energy.

Major Locations

Hallow, Zephyr City - largest cities on Aethar, both which are very modern and technologically advanced. Towering buildings, sprawling for miles, with millions of citizens in each
Victareon, Vecuna - two large sister cities; Victareon is the third largest city on Aethar. Military superpowers, very developed as well.
Xal'vi City/Island - busiest trade hub, neutral power and links all of the different provinces/continents
Trinity Isle - no large cities, just many small towns and villages, including secluded magic societies
Mt. Ryvern - tallest mountain peak on Aethar
Silla Island - mostly uninhabited forest brimming with wildlife

Description

Aethar, like Earth, is consisted of several continents separated by water. There are different types of governments set up on different territories and regions, with several large cities, which include technology hubs, trade harbors, metropolis cities, and many other cities, alongside other towns, villages, and even societies built around magic. There are mountains, lakes, islands, rivers, deserts, forests, and polar, ice covered regions on both poles, and different types of wildlife inhabit all sorts of habitats.

Humans evolved and colonized Aethar around 200,000 years before the "present", with many modern developments happening within the past couple thousand years. The scope of much of the story is within the past 70 years. There is a largely universal language spread throughout Aethar, simply called Common. There are other less commonly used languages and dialects, but most of the large cities utilize Common.

The use of magic is very rare and generally banned in most cities due to its potency. Many humans living in the city never witness the use of magic and soul energy, leaving it to fantasy and folklore. In the countryside, humans are often a bit more superstitious and accepting of mysterious happenings involved with soul energy. There are many different cultures, but there are a few stories in folklore that are fairly common in many of them, including stories involving the two gods of time, and creation of the world (there are also many variations, none which describe the pact accurately). The idea of the world soul within Aethar is not widely believed in the city, where scientific advances and discoveries have solved much of the mysteries of the world. The creation of the Internet within the past 60 years connected the entire world of Aethar together in ways thought unimaginable.

The Second Demon War destroyed many of Aethar's cities, leaving mostly ruins. Almost a third of the population of Aethar was wiped in the absolute apocalypse that occurred in those months. Although the outlook was bleak, the cities began to rebuild slowly. Many smaller towns were left abandoned.

Portals and other links to the anti-existence realm, Ordeal, require specific knowledge and sufficient soul energy. Opening these portals also cause a sort of shockwave that can be felt by specific individuals. Portals to other realms are even less common.

An anti-existence is an entity from the anti-existence realm linked with another entity in the surface realm. Two main things are reflected on both sides of the soul link: power levels, and death. Anti-existence can exist without a soul link, but the most powerful are usually linked to an individual in the surface realm.

One aspect that sets apart anti-existence is that they, in general, and particularly those living in the anti-existence realm, base social hierarchy and respect based on power. They admire more powerful beings and disregard ones of weaker power than their own. The throne is merely reserved for the most powerful, and the inhabitants are quick to accept a new ruler if the old one was defeated or slain in a direct challenge.

There are also other special cases of existence which do not fall into either category, which are explained on that specific character's profile. Every conscious being (with a few exceptions), whether existence, anti-existence, or neither, contain a certain amount of soul energy which can also be seen as their life energy or conscious, and is directly proportional to their level of power. Certain individuals can take advantage of soul energy, but in most cases, it is simply reabsorbed back to the world soul once the being reaches the end of its life.

More on soul energy & soul links

The anti-existence realm (occasionally called the Ordeal) can only be accessed by special means and is home to various anti-existence inhabitants. The realm is consisted largely of a purple flesh-like matter and contains huge structures and spires, as well as floating islands above the main level. There is no natural lighting in many areas and the atmosphere is noticeably colder and thinner than Aethar's. Raw soul energy can occasionally be seen. Towns and cities dot the barren landscape, often built in likeness of those on Aethar.

Major Locations

Drakar - the king's citadel, and the surrounding city, is the largest and most developed of the realm. Large majority of inhabitants here are in direct service to the king.
Atalean, Vesulo, Evra - three largest cities aside from Drakar. Evra is known for having a few powerful spellcasters (utilizing the nearby Slyph Falls). Vesulo, flanked by the Vesulan Mountains and Lake Nyphur, developed many unique innovations.
Mortier Lake - wanderers come to this lake (and nearby city) to cure their wounds

Description

The entire anti-existence realm consists of a near-endless plain containing all of the structures of the realm, including formations that resemble mountains and cliffs, with floating islands above it. The realm mostly consists of the flesh-like, purple matter (it is fairly tough though, unlike human flesh), and the sky is covered in a thick, purple haze. Lighting in the realm come from raw soul energy, but in most areas it remains pitch black. The most notable structures that dot the landscape are the spires and spikes, which can either consist of flesh or bone. There are other materials like stone and minerals that are scattered around the realm as well. There are lakes of a cold, liquid substance similar to water, but it is light pink in color.

The most intriguing part of the realm is perhaps its inhabitants. Many of them are in a humanoid form, especially after the rise of the humans on Aethar. Most of the inhabitants in the areas surrounding the king's citadel are human-like. In a majority of cases, a larger, beast-like form is only possible with enough soul energy. There are inhabitants with much smaller forms, with only a spark of soul energy within them.

The typical humanoid inhabitants of recent are formed from soul energy that previously belonged to a human, and therefore they can contain a faint memory that belonged to that human, though this is rare. Although the inhabitants did cooperate to build small towns and cities (built from flesh and stone), most of them still keep to themselves, as survival is key. Their intelligence and cognitive abilities are usually similar to the humans on Aethar, but the focus is much more often on self survival than anything else. There are cases of inhabitants banding together into groups, clans, cults, etc. There is no real realm-wide economy and trading and bartering is the only real connection between settlements, as inhabitants are usually gathered around specific regions of the realm. Nomads and travelers are not uncommon, however, but often find it difficult to fit in unless they exude exceptional soul energy, in which weaker inhabitants will typically be more respectful and accepting. There are many inhabitants that wander like wild beasts, and are much more primitive in the sense that their soul energy is not as organized.

Much further away from Drakar lies uncharted lands covered in a thick fog known as the Shroud. There are inhabitants and small settlements past the Shroud but they are much more erratic. Only certain individuals dare traverse into the Shroud, as many do not return.

Dea and the Royal Guard are the main lawkeepers of the realm. Dea is capable of dispelling most resistance by dismantling the soul energy formed in her own creations (most known anti-existence, aside from the most powerful). However, freedom of will exists, and most inhabitants are capable of making their own decisions, but the respect and desire for power is very much rooted in the hearts of all of them, and therefore most dare not wish to oppose the king.

Links to the surface realm (Aethar especially) are highly regulated by the Royal Guard, and must get approved by Dea herself. Drak requires that any anti-existence traveling to the surface realm adopt a human form prior to traversing. There is an underground market for access to the surface (usually in Paranon), but these are quickly shut down, and the punishment for such a trespass is death.

Chapter One - The Origin

Long ago, just as worlds began to form in the vast emptiness of the universe, entities formed of pure energy also began to take shape. These were later known as the Verinu. Many of the Verinu simply drifted among the vacuum looking for purpose, and encounters between these primal beings were rare, but often destructive. Some remained formless, but others crafted physical forms drawn from their own growing imaginations. Meanwhile, the universal energy -- or soul energy -- continued to grow, flourishing the worlds and stars that dotted the cosmos.

Keio

Keio, the Non-Existence

Verinu / Vanished from Existence / Cryptic
Keio, a mysterious individual shrouded in fog, accompanied by Fade the black bird. When he "vanishes" from the surface, most individuals fail to recall him. His innate knowledge of the realms make him a crucial source to Drak, but his madman cackles still make him fairly uneasy...
, one of the more powerful Verinu, found a very promising planet that would soon house various forms of life - Aethar. He sensed the world soul, Eche

Eche, the Surface World

World Soul / Aethegard Commander / Recently Awoken
Eche slept as the soul of Aethar, the surface world, nourishing all of the life that depend on his soul energy. He and his Aethegard army were awoken with the threat of the raven god, Kai. Taking the form of a deer, he is prepared to hunt down the remaining traces of the Insanity, before his nightmare becomes a reality.
, in deep sleep within it. He encountered another Verinu, Dea

Dea, the Anti-Existence Realm

World Soul / Verinu / Fleshweaves Inhabitants
Dea, the playful Verinu that formed a pact with Keio to become the anti-existence realm. She controls the entire realm of flesh and bone, and protects it from intruders and "criminals" who seek to cause harm. Out of boredom, she forms inhabitants from flesh and binds soul energy to them to spark them to life.
, nearby. Exchanging wishes, they formed a contract: Dea would be granted power for the creation of a new realm anchored to Aethar, but affecting the rest of the known universe, drawing from the untapped loose soul energy flowing through the primary "surface" realm.

This became known as the origin of the anti-existence realm. Ordeal, as a result, became the soul of the realm, and a soul link formed between the two worlds.

Two powerful individuals, Sen

Sen, the Lord of the Abyss

Consumer of Worlds / Sealed Power / Dark Matter
Sen's natural form is one of a towering beast of dark matter, but he sealed it into the container around his arm when he arrived on Aethar and adopted a human form. He loves battling and maintains a tavern. He despises chaos, and sought to rid the world of the Insanity. Drak is his anti-existence counterpart.
and Drak

Drak, the Anti-Existence King

Sen's Opposite / Soul Energy Master / Coffee Lover
With the birth of one of the most powerful existence came Drak, the anti-existence king, the current ruler of the realm. Accompanied by Cer and Rain, he lives on the surface realm as an informant, staying hidden through his illusions. He is mute and - unlike Sen - prefers not to battle, dreading the moments when he must unsheathe his sword.
, came into being, originating from the contract. While not quite a Verinu, Sen was formed from the energy emanating from the primal Aethar, and thus, because of the soul link, it created another entity within the anti-existence realm: Drak.

Sen, once lost, was told by a Verinu named Mercury that his purpose was to consume worlds. He quickly gained power, enough to rival the Verinu, and so did Drak, as a result of the soul link. He came across a world and after consuming it, was tormented by the lost souls, and attacked Mercury as a result. He eventually became known as the Lord of the Abyss, and sensed something familiar within the small world of Aethar. While approaching the planet, he was ambushed by a powerful beam. A challenge that set the entire world in motion.

Chapter Two - The Empire

There were two gods of time. Kai

Kai, the Eternal Raven

Master of the Future / Corrupted / Blinded by Rage
Kai, the immortal, was able to gather countless amounts of soul energy by exploiting his visions of the future. However, it did not save him from the demon god, and he was drained of his blood and power, instilling a relentless rage that remained far past his fall into insanity.
, the eternal raven, who had dominion over the future, and Mourn

Mourn, the Timeless One

Keeper of the Past / Treasured Memories / Loves Flowers
Mourn, the immortal of the past, treasured the memories that the humans made on Aethar enough to intervene in the past in order to save the world. He had lost Kai, as well as much of his power, but he finally reappeared with a shower of petals to finish what he started.
, the timeless one, who had power over the past. An erratic and chaotic individual named Ishi

Ishi, the Demon God

Malicious Aura / Selfish Greed / Sealed Indefinitely
Ishi was driven mad with power after consuming countless souls, building a dark empire to rule. Their signature ability is the Insanity aura, causing Aethar to fall into war. Combined forces were able to seal them away at last, but the taint of their avarice forever changed history.
, the self-proclaimed demon god, had begun to consume countless souls and was leading the world of Aethar towards total destruction. Mourn, despite Kai's warnings, intervened in the past and shifted the timeline. Ishi still developed into the demon god in this new primary timeline, but the immediate destruction of the world had been averted; for now.

The demon god's most powerful weapon, the Insanity aura, quickly grabbed the attention of the gods of time, as well as Sen. The aura, which had already begun to spread, deteriorated all reason and was capable of driving most individuals into madness, and the most powerful of the fallen would be forever bound to the demon god's insane will.

With their power quickly growing, Ishi began to build an empire. With the help of the aura, the demon god was able to lure Kai into a trap. They appointed Actu

Actu, the Ringmaster

Runecaster / Amnesiac / Circus of the Underworld
Bearing the heavy burden of taking his mentor's life, Actu the crocodilian runecaster was recruited by the demon god to craft weapons for the empire. When he lost, he was spared and his memory was wiped. With his new life, he created the Circus of the Underworld as a place for misfits and criminals like him to belong.
, the runecaster, as their main assassin, general, and weaponsmaster, and they found a way to forge magical weapons by using the blood of the captured raven god. Both of Kai's eyes were extracted from him: one became Actu's keepsake, the other became the Eye of Foresight. Mourn, realizing that his intervention had led to the unexpected outcome of Kai's corruption, fled Aethar, drowned in sadness.

As the demon god's insanity aura spread across the world of Aethar, Sen found the need to safelock his power, and approached Ili

Ili, the Observer

Astral Entity / Emotionless / Seal Magic
Ili is an astral being of pure energy, void of emotion, tasked to maintain the realm's balance and stability, working closely with Sen to accomplish this goal. His physical form is unstable and therefore he keeps a close eye on Aethar from the vacuum of space, intervening only when necessary.
, the Observer. In return, Ili asked for assistance in defeating Ishi. They launched a counterattack and managed to lock them away before they grew too powerful, however, Sen almost lost his sanity. Actu was defeated, but his life was spared, his memory wiped and his two most powerful weapons scattered to unknown parts of the world. Finally freed, Kai quickly fled to a different timeline, where he secluded himself in attempt to recover. Meanwhile, Mercury crash landed on Aethar in the present day, and was frozen in deep ice.

In the anti-existence realm, which had already grown much more powerful due to the soul energy leaked from the war on Aethar, Drak challenged Keio, the current ruler, for the throne, with the assistance of Zero

Zero, the Runecarver

Inventor of Rune Magic / Devoted / Sacrificed Self
Zero was a powerful and crafty anti-existence inventor that discovered rune magic, and utilized his inventions to assist in the revolution that overthrew Keio, the Shadow King. In the final fight, he gave up his life to ensure the plan ultimately succeeded.
, Imp, and Gallow, who quickly saw potential in Drak and assisted him in the fight. During the battle, Gallow clashed with Keio's personal bodyguard, Sevre

Sevre, the Soul Dealer

Shared Existence / Wields Soulfear / Keio's Guardian
Sevre's special power allows him to transfer his existence to another body, saving him from his demise at the hands of Gallow. With Soulfear, he captures and sells souls to his clients, and seeks to return his master to his former glory. He currently shares his body with Imp, a long-forgotten warrior.
. Sevre was defeated at the hands of the master marksman, but he managed to survive his fatal wounds by transferring his existence, fleeing from the fight. Imp and Zero, however, were lost.

In the throne room, Keio realized Drak had grown too powerful to overcome and he activated his failsafe: his specific refined power, an existence wipe. He successfully transcended to a non-existence, completely erasing his past, and any traces of him, from the entire realm. Although he was also afflicted with the memory gap, Drak seized the throne and control of the realm. From here, Ordeal and the rest of the anti-existence all believed that Drak had always been the king of the realm, with the Verinu long-forgotten and obscured in the darkness.

Decades of peace followed, in both Aethar and the anti-existence realm, but it did not last. 52 years after the First Demon War, a group led by the mysteriously powerful Talor

Talor, the Void Star

Pop Star / CEO of Abyssic / The Mist
Talor, the irresistible boy band heartthrob... with the entire arsenal of the weapon company Abyssic at his fingertips. He utilizes the Mist to completely manipulate his fans as well as his clients, in order to create a world filled with disorder and war, with him at the center.
managed to locate and free the demon god from his prison. Ishi quickly fled, but Talor had already accomplished his plan.

Chapter Three - The Demon God's Return

As the Insanity aura began to spread again, it deeply affected the anti-existence realm. Drak left his kingdom to venture onto the surface world, Aethar, to ensure Sen does not lose, having almost lost his sanity last time.

Years later, in a small town outside of Zephyr City, KL

KL, the Immortal Hacker

Uploaded Conscious / Prodigy Hacker / Underground Informant
KL was unmatched in his ability to infiltrate any database he wished, bypassing even the most powerful digital security. With his greatest project, he uploaded his consciousness onto the internet, allowing him to freely manipulate it to the fullest. He resides as an informant, fleeing from his nemesis Decree.
, a notorious hacker, began to create his revolutionary project while Ness

Ness, the Innocent Plague

KL's Brother / Contagion Host / Heartbeat Obsessed
Ness relied on his brother for comfort, but when he was lost to him, Ness fled his home and became host to the Contagion, a remnant of the demon god. Consuming flesh and mind alike, it devours its victims completely out of Ness' control. Yet, Ness still hopes to hear the heartbeats he cherishes... if only at the end of a victim's life.
, his younger brother, became more insecure. When KL transcended, successfully uploading his conscious to the Internet and becoming a powerful digital entity, Ness fled home at the news of his brother's betrayal and encountered the Contagion, a flesh-consuming disease that housed itself in his body. Decree

Decree, the Knight of Justice

Robot with Human Conscious / KL's Nemesis / Dept. of Defence
Desiree was a government agent tasked to stop KL, but even with her expertise she was not able to finish her mission when she lost her life. She awoke to find her consciousness uploaded into a robot body. Fearing her future, she sought KL for two reasons: to stop his tyranny, and to find a way to escape her fate.
, the government agent responsible for KL's capture, lost her life and had her conscious transferred as well, although hers was to a specially made robot body. She was prompted to continue her mission, while KL continued to establish himself as an information broker of the underworld.

Actu, who was given a new chance of life, established his Circus of the Underworld, bringing together numerous misfits and criminals that he encountered, including Gallow, who followed Drak to the surface realm but could not locate him. Actu kept his personal weapon and his runecasting, allowing him to gain respect from the other circus members. One of the members, Admyri, adopted Ness for a short while and he traveled with the troupe as they hopped from town to town.

Cer

Cer, the Watcher

Drak's Most Loyal / Artifact Eyes / Surgeon
Cer was a brilliant surgeon with a peculiar curiosity for the anti-existence that led him into a very tricky situation. He was saved by none other than Drak himself, who installed the Artifacts into him and requested his loyalty. He can see into the future and read minds with the Artifacts, both crucial to Drak's plans.
, a medical student, began his studies in Aeolus University to be a surgeon and eventually gained curiosity on the subject of anti-existence and dark matter. Elsewhere, several scientists, backed by a mysterious donor, began working on a secret project, wishing to create a being capable of discerning the two existence and dispatching of the anti-existence, which they were led to believe are responsible for various innocent deaths. This was created by successfully combining the two essences of existence, creating Rain

Rain, the Co-Existence

Created by Drak / Anti-Hunter / Pain Transfer
In a dark lab, a group of scientists formed Rain the co-existence, which was instilled with an endlessly growing pain which can only be transferred onto anti-existence. She hunted the anti-existence until she was challenged by Drak, who revealed to be her creator. She is able to shift physical forms, a power she eventually learned to control.
, the co-existence.

A child located Voidheart in his small village on Trinity Isle, and the weapon eventually made its way to a mysterious being known as Chrono. Not long after, Sevre, who had survived the initial attack and escaped to the surface, encountered and bound with Soulfear. These two weapons were the lost, prized weapons of Actu's now-forgotten past as the demon god's weaponmaster. He eventually became informed of the two, but to him, the weapons were shrouded in mystery.

Drak encountered Cer, in his desperate attempt to gather a top secret file, and he saved his life. After he was taken to safely, Cer's eyes were painfully replaced with the two Artifacts, enchanted eyes that granted him specific powers. After Drak revealed his identity, Cer swore his loyalty to him. They soon moved to a larger city, Hallow. KL had established a base here as well, and he and Drak formed a fairly formal partnership.

Drak was introduced to Keio here, who he immediately became very suspicious about. Keio, on the other hand, seemed to know a lot more about Drak. Despite the distrustful relationship, Drak valued the non-existence's knowledge about what is going on between the realms in order to monitor his kingdom.

Rain eventually located Drak, the prime target of her installed protocol to hunt down all traces of the anti-existence. Mid-fight, Drak activated the underlying loyalty program that he installed when he initially funded and watched over the project, and Rain also swore her life to Drak.

Sevre finally presented himself to Keio, dispelling all of the non-existence's doubts of him surviving the attack so long ago. Keio refused to trust Sevre upfront, but he insisted that his loyalty still lies firmly with him, and that he was willing to do all that it takes to help Keio regain the throne, whether he had planned to or not.

For several years, Sen and Ili scoured the surface for any traces of the demon god. The Insanity aura, although in a much more suppressed form, was felt in a large portion of the globe, and they were unable to pinpoint its source. They feared that this was only the beginning of a greater attack, and they had to find Ishi before they were able to fully recover and unleash the aura.

However, they were too late.

Chapter Four - The Insanity Unleashed

Drak, Sen, and Ili suddenly disappeared from existence, trapped in an unknown realm created by Otaye

Otaye, the Realmkeeper

Verinu / Sergeant General / Pocket Realms
Otaye Favari holds many roles: the Last Realm Master, the Sergeant General of the Department of Defense in Zephyr City, and the head of the Soul Knights project. He enjoys his tea parties from the shadows, waiting for the right moment to create his ideal world filled with war.
. With their most powerful threats successfully neutralized, the demon god unleashed their full potential, drowning the entire world of Aethar in the Insanity aura. With many of the weak-minded now under their control, they began to rebuild their empire. Within weeks, they commanded the destruction of many cities, and the world fell into an apocalyptic state. Towns were engulfed in fire, cities brought to ruin, with the Insanity completely deteriorating any chance of an organized counterattack.

During this time, Cer tasked himself with solving the mystery, having seen Drak in an insane, monstrous state in a dream. Cer received a special artifact from Rain in the form of a special candle, which he was able to use to locate Drak and return the others.

Already weakened from his return, the demon god's influence was able to successfully take root and drive Sen into insanity. He unsealed his powers and began to bring about the world's destruction, only to be stopped by Drak, who was able to remain sane. Drak had to resort to unleashing his sword, which he had sealed when he came to the surface. After a long and drawn battle, Drak was able to successfully bring Sen back to his senses, but the two sustained heavy injuries. It was in this moment of weakness that Ishi emerged from hiding and attacked, hoping to finish what they couldn't before.

The two counterattacked, working together for the first time. However, even with their combined might, they realized they could not defeat the demon god on their own. By drawing upon the soul energy wrought upon by Sen's destruction, Drak was able to recover enough to draw Dea into the surface realm, although only for a brief moment. The area was engulfed in the flesh and cartilage structures of the anti-existence realm and mortally wounded the demon god. Ishi fled in fear, however, they were chased into a trap set by Ili, who received help from Mourn. In his last moments, the demon god saw the visage of the one that coerced them to this fate, and the flower petals that led to their ultimate demise.

The insanity began to dissipate from the two realms, and the Aethar began to recover from the war. Governments were re-established, cities slowly began to rebuild, and people began to go about their daily lives once more.

Although the Insanity aura was no more, its influence had already reached Kai in the alternate timeline, and he was finally awoken from his secluded slumber. Blinded by his vengeance and fear, he sought the opportunity to carry out revenge on his enemies - the mortals.

Chapter Five - The Raven's Vengeance

With Kai's return, the threat of the corruption remained. The raven god was bent on taking the world for his own, but he first had to dispose of the two biggest threats to his plan - Drak and Sen. He ambushed Drak, and Sen quickly joined the fight. The three clashed, and although the battle quickly ended with the raven god's fall, the two victors did not make it out of the fight unscarred, and Lily

Lily, the Royal Healer

Royal Healer / Shroud Nomad / Internet Celeb
Recruited from the Shroud by the king himself, Lily was appointed as the Royal Healer of Drakar for her extraordinary soul healing. After following Drak to Aethar, she made her own mark by becoming a social media icon. She adores human culture.
, an anti-existence specialized royal healer, decided to settle on Aethar after helping Drak recover. Although Kai's essence disappeared from the battlefield that day, he was eventually revived with the help of an unsuspecting fanatic. He returned to his physical form, but he fled to recover. This clash captured the attention of Mourn, who had been laying dormant and in hiding all this time, unable to face the fact that his intervention inadvertently created the demon god that corrupted Kai.

Eche, the soul of Aethar, finally emerged from his sleep. Realizing the threat of the raven god, he called upon the Aethegard, his personal army, to help keep the peace and disrupt Kai's plans.

Mourn settled in Hallow and hid himself as a humble florist, while gathering information about Kai. Although he was prepared for the worst, he approached Drak and Sen and offered his help to them, admitting that it was his problem to solve. But he cannot do it alone.

While Mourn was collecting information from the denizens of Hallow, Actu's circus happens to stop by, and they meet. Mourn immediately senses a dark, familiar backstory hidden within Actu's memories, the ones that he was forced to forget in the aftermath of the First Demon War. They casually chat about things that may happen soon, but Mourn asks if Actu ever feels that he is missing something. Actu smiles and admits it is indeed the case, but it is probably a memory that he no longer needs.

Later that night, Actu puts on a show. Although Cer was already acquainted with Actu in the past, Drak attends for the first time, out of curiosity. During the show, Gallow challenges the audience in her usual segment, and Drak accepts in response, donning a mask. After his impressive display of power, completely surprising Gallow, he reveals his identity to her, the one that she was searching for ever since she came to Aethar. A few days later, she locates Drak and Cer's residence and challenges Cer for his place. Drak agrees to the fight, and it was made clear to Gallow that Drak still favors Cer, despite his lack of combat prowess. She leaves them alone for the time being.

In a mission under the Department of Defense, Decree manages to locate KL's physical body in a hospital, and speaks to him directly, threatening to destroy it. They set aside their rivalry briefly to talk about their situations, and Decree admits that she still needs KL's help to free herself from this body. She spares KL this time, declaring that his body was never found.

Mourn attempts to find clues about Kai's whereabouts and comes across the Raven Cult, which was originally linked to the individual that revived him from his most recent disappearance. He finds a link to Abyssic. He meets Talor in a gala, but he was not able to find anything suspicious about his past, which was cleverly shrouded in the mist.

Imp, who survived the battle but was captured by Talor when he arrived on the surface, was freed by Decree, in an accidental coincidence. Mourn approached Imp, and gathered the courage to ask for help from a certain Verinu and go forward with a daring plan to seal Kai forever and save Aethar.

Chapter Six - The Sacrifice

Imp agrees to become the decoy for Drak, sufficient enough to foil Kai's foresight. The bait worked, and Kai approaches the prison, only to be ambushed by Drak and Sen. Although he predicted an attack, he did not expect Mourn to be there as well. Mourn manages to bind Kai, and he reveals his real plan: to trap both of them in an permanent timeless realm.

Keio finally appears, which is the wild card in Mourn's plan, as he could not predict the non-existence's signature in time. With his long-forgotten Verinu abilities, he successfully sends Mourn and Kai into an isolated realm, with their souls linked to the seal. Mourn is transformed into Kai's jailer, both eternally bound to the realm, with no way to return to Aethar.

After revealing much of his past, Keio goes into hiding from Drak. Meanwhile, two ancient beings, Slumber

After mysteriously re-emerging after centuries of being in hiding, Slumber joined the Circus of the Underworld for a short time before settling as a funeral director. He continues his master's work, directing the dead to the world soul. His pet owl, Ekrou, acts as his eyes.

Soul Energy

Soul energy is equivalent to the life force of an individual. It is usually inherent, but it can be heightened (such as through training) or stolen from others. Manifestations of soul energy have different appearances based on the type/form of soul energy. Most of the time, soul energy is too faint for the untrained eye, but sufficient high concentrations of soul energy can be seen by normal humans. Small amounts of soul energy are found in almost all living beings, including the world souls, Echelon and Ordeal. When individuals die, soul energy is usually released and can be reabsorbed by the world soul (this process happens as the body decays, so very "fresh" corpses still have much of the soul energy that the individual had in life). In the primal stages of the universe, the Verinu were formed from coalescing soul energy in space.

The types of known soul energy are as follows, along with their "usual" visual form, although some are much more common than others: Entropy (blue and wispy), Essence (green with lightning), Death (orange and veiny), Insanity (red aura), Origin (white and wispy), Rune (yellow and rune-like), Creation (purple and fiery), Mist (dark purple and smoky), Memory (magenta with orbs), and Void (black and fluid like floating liquid).

It requires very specialized knowledge and capabilities to manipulate soul energy of any form, especially during combat. Most types of soul energy -- but notably Entropy -- have innate destructive properties when coming in contact with most materials on either realm. If the entirety an individual's soul energy is taken while alive, it can be stored and used as a complete "soul" (seen in the case for Soulfear). It is more commonly used as fuel for weapons (Drak, Voidheart), for enhancing certain abilities (Kai), or as magic (Actu). Raw soul energy is found to be most easily and efficiently conducted through metals, but flesh is also suitable.

Sufficient soul energy can prolong a normal mortal/human's life, but it does not necessarily mean immortality. There are several cases of this, and it mostly depends on how the soul energy is stored. With Drak and Sen, two very powerful (but mortal) beings, their soul energies are completely contained in their bodies. With the world souls Dea and Eche, their energies are spread out across the entire world/realm, so it is extremely difficult to fully extinguish. The "true" immortals, Mourn and Kai, have their soul energies contained in their bodies, but their souls are linked to multiple timelines. Unless all timelines have been disrupted and rid of them, they cannot be fully destroyed. Almost all known beings, on either realm, fall into the first case.

Large amounts of raw soul energy (in any form) causes moisture to condense in the air, causing a fog to appear. Fog can typically be seen surrounding a battle between two soul energy users. This fog is separate to the Mist, which is a certain individual's specialty.

Soul energy is found to have a "taste" when consumed or absorbed, and depends on the source's emotions and intents at that particular moment. Examples of beings that have this preference include Voidheart and Drak.

Soul Links

When a powerful being dies, its soul energy sinks back into the world soul. In most cases on Aethar, this soul energy is released back to nature, such as the plants and wildlife. In the anti-existence realm, it is usually found in a "loose", untamed form. There are very few inhabitants that can harness the soul energy in this form. Dea, the world soul of the anti-existence realm, is one of them, and often fleshweaves more inhabitants out of the soul energy. Because of the nature of soul energy, many inhabitants are formed of a soul energy mirror of a recently dead human from the surface (which explains why some anti-existence are tied with unknown, very faint memories of their "past life").

Very rarely, if a powerful being forms in the surface realm, the soul energy concentrated in one individual will be enough to be mirrored immediately into the anti-existence realm in the form of another being (such was the case with Sen and Drak). Many powerful anti-existence are thus soul linked to an individual in the surface realm, but it is not necessarily the case the other way around.

The two primary effects of the soul link are mirrored power levels (soul energy levels) and simultaneous death. In some cases, especially if the soul links are strong (Drak, Sen), other influences will also affect both, like the Insanity. Critical wounds can also be reflected on both, such as large-scale damage on Aethar, which was also reflected on Ordeal. Soul links have no specific manifestation and cannot be severed in any way, aside from the deaths of the two linked.
